The Byng Spring Market was a huge success! Services, food, entertainment, auctions, the used items sales were only some of the booths that could be found there. The gym was packed with people for the entire duration – ranging from Byng teachers and students to their families to neighbours, along with students from other schools and complete strangers. Kudos to the astonishing amount of student and parent volunteers that helped out!

The Lord Byng Science department table attracted visitors with its display of flora and fauna, including reptiles and baby plants (brought to you by vegetative reproduction). There was much to buy, with tables stacked with gently used clothing, shoes, books, DVDs, toys, appliances, all for great deals. New products were also available, notably artisan jewelry (some were made by people in Kenya!). A stamp crafter, professional photographer and magician – okay, magic supply salesman – also garnered attention. The car wash, run by volunteers, boasted shiny, spotless cars.

Rows upon rows of silent auctions were held, where bidders competed against each other for the best deal on art supplies, tickets to the spa, gift baskets and many more.

Hungry marketgoers could buy homemade baked goods or find Chinese food in the cafeteria. Also in the cafeteria were some great performances by both familiar and new faces. A pop band, traditional Chinese dancing, Lady Gaga, martial arts, a lot of Chinese ballads, a performance from the BBQ (that’s the Byng Brass Quartet, if you’re wondering), “Taylor the Latte Boy” and a sneak peek preview of Byng’s upcoming musical Fame – coming May 1, 2, 8 and 9 – sent the whole audience clapping and cheering.

So overall, it was great fun and if you have missed the Spring Market this year, make sure to visit next time; it’ll be even bigger and better! What better way to spend your Saturday than to shop and hang out while supporting Byng and the community?
