Tuesday, November 7th, 2017: Thank you for your reflective editing today, everyone! Remember, as the author, you DO NOT have to accept someone’s corrections or suggestions – you get the final say. If you’re curious or unsure about a correction and want to ask me about it, just pop by after school some time! See you next class.

Friday, November 3rd, 2017: Were you away today? We had a DIALOGUE QUIZ and reviewed how to write dialogue correctly. When you are back at school, you can schedule a time to write this quiz. We also received our marked in-class paragraphs. We revised and rewrote our in-class paragraphs to learn from our mistakes. ROUGH COPY OF YOUR SHORT STORY DUE NEXT CLASS!

Wednesday, November 1st, 2017: Next class, let’s have a little quiz about today’s work on writing dialogue. You can use your Writing Dialogue handout, so bring it with you. See you then!

Monday, October 30th, 2017: A big thank to Ms. DeYoung and Ted for their visit today! Don’t forget to have your story ideas/plans for next class. Also, BRING YOUR GOCARD!

Thursday, October 26th, 2017: For November 1st, bring some evidence of your plan/brainstorm for your own CURIOUS STORY. Also, bring your GoCard – we’re going to the library.

Tuesday, October 24th, 2017: Were you away today? We watched the opening to a curious film, and discussed strategies to create a “curious” atmosphere. Students received a planning sheet for THEIR OWN curious story (unrelated to “Faces” or today’s film – completely their own), which is due on November 1st.

We will be going to the library on November 1st. Please bring your GoCard!

Thursday, October 19th, 2017: Were you away today? We checked answers to Lesson 26 and 27 and read “Faces” by Dennis Hamley, focusing on SOMETHING CURIOUS! Extra stories are on the shelf in the classroom. NO HOMEWORK!

Tuesday, October 17th, 2017: Hooray! You finished your first in-class write! For next class, finish today’s worksheet (Lesson 26 and 27). See you on Thursday!

Friday, October 13th, 2017: Next class we will have at least an hour to finish our in-class paragraph. To prepare, you can review the story, review our parts of a paragraph, and brainstorm evidence that you can use. You will have access to the story, parts of a paragraph, a dictionary, and a thesaurus.


Friday, October 6th, 2017: SEE YOU AT CAMP! We’ll continue with our in-class paragraphs tomorrow. Were you away? We wrote a short quiz, and more importantly, started IN-CLASS WRITING today. Make sure that you read “What I Want to Be When I Grow Up” before your return.

Wednesday, October 4th, 2017: For homework, read “What I Want to Be When I Grow Up” by Martha Brooks (click here). Be ready for an open book quiz next class!

Monday, October 2nd, 2017: Happy October! We went over the answers for our homework, and reviewed paragraph writing. For homework, REWRITE your “Side Bet” paragraph using everything that we have learned. Tuesday, September 26th, 2017: Sorry that I was away today, everyone! Were you away today too? The class finished learning about Parts of Speech, and took home a worksheet about simple sentences and types of sentences (Lesson 11 and 12). This is due on Thursday!

Wednesday, September 20th, 2017: Love the library! Remember, your new GoCard is your library card here. If you were away: we went to check out our awesome library today, and then learned about parts of speech – adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions, and interjections.

Monday, September 18th, 2017: Well done, everyone!  For next class, write one paragraph discussing ONE of the man’s character traits (your choice of character trait). This needs to be a ROUGH DRAFT ONLY. It may be handwritten or typed – you can write it underneath your chart from today, if you want (the chart is NOT homework). Due on Wednesday, September 20th.
