AMC 10/12 registration now closed

by Byng Math

Registration is now closed. Contest is period 2-1 cafeteria on Tuesday February 3. See the Contest and Problem Solving page for more info and practice contests. Please make sure if you signed up, you show up. NOTE: due to the midterm exam week being changed, this contest now falls during the double block week, in which there may be midterm exams. Please check with your 2-1 to see if you have a midterm that day, if you do, there may be a chance your teacher will let you write during another block (but don’t expect this). However, if not (which is most likely, and midterms take priority over math contests), you will not be able to write the AMC on that day. It may still be possible to write at another school on Feb 25. See Mr. Cacchioni if this applies to you.

Final math contests of the year.

by Byng Math

The results are in from the Euclid contest written in April. We had 62 students write the Euclid Senior Math Contest, and our school winners were Roger Li and Cailan St. Martin who ties with a very impressive score of 73. Jerry Shi was right behind them with a score of 72. Together, based on our top three scores, Lord Byng placed 6th in Vancouver, 21st in BC and 90th in Canada. Well done gentlemen! We had 14 of our students place in the top 25% of contestants.
Also we had our sitting of the grade 8 Gauss contest on May 14, in which 44 of our keenest grade 8 math students took part. Peter Song, Kenneth Xing and Harry Jia all tied for first place in the school with an amazing 144 points out of a maximum of 150. Well done gentlemen!
To all students and parents, all information for next year’s contests as well as registration links will be updated for September.

Math 9 Challenge Exam

by Byng Math

The Math 9 Challenge Exam (for those grade 8 students who have studied Math 9 on their own and wish to challenge the course) will take place on Monday June 23 from 9:00 – 12:00 in room 300. Please register here. The test will cover all learning outcomes from Math 9. If sufficient proficiency is shown, every effort will be made to place the student into Math 10 (or perhaps Math 10 Enriched), however due to timetabling constraints it is not always possible, so no guarantees are made. Please contact Mr. Cacchioni with any questions.
