Current Issues

This page lists issues that the Lord Byng Pac is currently addressing:

Budget cuts: The Lord Byng PAC does not support any budget cuts to the public schools that will directly affect school programs. This includes cuts to music programs, as well as all mini schools including the Byng Arts Mini school, and athletic programs, enrichment programs, and programs that directly affect special needs students, ESL students and students in general.  In response to the proposed budget cuts to school programs suggested by the Vancouver School Board, the Lord Byng PAC prepared the attached letter in April 2010.   LORD BYNG SECONDARY AGAINST BUDGET CUTS

Message from Lord Byng Secondary School:

As a result of input we received from our student and parent community, teachers in the Byng Arts Department and the Fine Arts Department have a renewed shared commitment to offer Junior Symphony (LBJS) and Senior Symphony (LBSO) as part of the repertoire of music courses for next year.  Please read details in letter to parents and music students

2009

  • Seismic upgrades to the Lord Byng classroom wings were completed in 2005.  However, other buildings, including the gymnasium and auditorium, were not upgraded.  The Lord Byng PAC will present a letter of request asking the VSB to complete the seismic upgrades of the remaining buildings when Jules Quesnel is retrofitted, beginning next year.  The request will be the first item on the agenda at the Committee II (Planning and Facilities) meeting on February 3, 2009, 5:30 PM, in Room 110 at the VSB Education Centre (1580 W. Broadway)  All are welcome to attend.
