What is Dry Grad ?

The Dry Grad is an event organized and sponsored by parents and teachers of Lord Byng School.   It is usually held at the school following the formal graduation dinner and dance and it continues until the early hours of the morning.  The word “dry” refers to the fact that no alcohol is served at the event.

What is Graduation ?

Graduation is a formal  event at the Chan Centre during which the Grade 12 students receive their diplomas and any school awards.  The formal graduation ceremony at the Chan Centre is usually followed by a formal dinner and dance in the evening.  Students and parents attend this event which usually lasts until about 10 or 11pm.

What is a prom ?

The word prom is an abbreviation of the word promenade.  In Canada and the US, the word prom refers to a formal dance which is held at the end of the school year.  Lord Byng does not sponsor a prom.

What is Swyng with Byng?

The tenth annual Swyng with Byng was held on Friday, April 18, 2008.  This event is traditionally the Music Society’s largest fundraiser.  Students, parents, and friends can come to enjoy a great evening of live music and dance.  Professional dance instructors help teach some basic swing dance moves and the Senior Jazz Band performs.  The event is held on a Friday night in the school’s gymnasium.
