Amy first came to TheaCo in 1980 and is a TheaCo Grad of 1982. She came back as a Drama/English teacher (1990-96), leaving theatre and going into full time English and then returning to TheaCo as one of its teachers in 2014. Hughes & McLean produced and directed Unity: 1918, Young Frankenstein: The Musical, and Curtains: The Musical. Last year, she and her new TheaCo teaching partner, Matthew Thiessen, co-produced and directed their first show together...Moby Dick: The Musical. This year's production of The Doctor in Wonderland has cemented their working partnership. This production would not have been possible with the dedication and hard work from our amazing Set Designer Derek Fu, our Production Designer Darren Hales and our Assistant Technical Director and builder Logan Herbert for their endless hours of work they do for us and our program. Congrats to all the TheaCo actors and techs for their hard work on The Doctor in Wonderland.
This is Mr. Thiessen’s second foray into the magic that is Theatre Company. He still practices musical theatre with his three year old daughter while singing Baby Beluga. He's had a great time working with these talented actors and crew, and thanks them for their hard work and professionalism. A big THANK YOU to Amy Hughes and Darren Hales for their…everything!
Nathan Purcell is a Drama Teacher Candidate from UBC who has worked as the assistant director for The Doctor In Wonderland. He completed his undergraduate in theatre at the University of Victoria studying stage management, directing, acting, and applied theatre. He has had a wonderful experience working with Theatre Company for the past 12 weeks and hopes everyone has as much fun watching the show as he did working on it.
