First week of the new school year has come and gone (well, sorta, cuz I still have to work tomorrow), and we’ve all survived relatively intact.
First, the Good: teaching this week was very enjoyable, and I realized just how much I had missed laughing and having fun with the kiddies. (I also realized how much I DIDN’T miss the behavioural issues and clueless parents, but I’m trying not to focus on that) I am looking forward to this coming year of lessons, and I have a few new ideas I want to test in practice.
The Bad: we were in the ER with my mom for most of the night last night with an urgent eye problem. She is thankfully ok now, but it was not a pleasant experience. Being in the hospital also brought back some scary and painful memories. I’ll never forget the night 2 years ago I took my mom to the ER in Regina with chest pains and difficulty breathing. I had just lost my dad about 3 weeks prior, and on that night and during that period of time, I lived in constant fear that my mom was going to die any minute too. I tried to keep calm last night and I knew that it at least wasn’t a life or death situation in all likelihood.
I’m a wee bit tired today. After finally sending us home at 4:30am, they wanted us back at the hospital eye clinic at 9 this morning. (I realized I’m TOO OLD to be pulling near-all-nighters! I don’t know how I used to do that not infrequently all through university! Goodness.) After many tests, the doctors think my mom may have glaucoma but are not 100% sure yet. We will find out hopefully in the next few weeks.
To feel grounded and in control again, I turned to food. =)
Tonight’s concoction: mild italian sausage, rotini with sauted onion, zucchini, tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes, and avocado, and sauted rapini.
And then my super duper awesome husband made me some s’mores! (minus the chocolate layer cuz that’s more contamination than I can handle)
Not the best focussed photo, but I unfortunately didn’t take any others and didn’t realize the focus was off until I had already eaten it. Ah, coulda shoulda woulda. But I can tell you it was TASTY!
Now I’m gonna enjoy the rest of one of my fave TV shows, Law and Order: SVU.
